GENERAL

1. What is “crema”?

An authentic, correctly extracted espresso comes with “crema” which is a naturally created layer of hazelnut colored froth that is dense and thick enough to entirely cover the surface. The “crema” is made up of small air bubbles and the natural soluble oils found in the finely ground coffee extracted at high pressure.

We believe that our coffee blends are the best you can find at the most famous coffee shops in Rome and Florence (Italy).  By providing you with 3 alternative selections: bold (Roma), smooth (Firenze) and delicate (Medium Roast), we are convinced you have all options you ever need.   Unlike other coffee systems, we are offering the true Italian espresso experience and we cannot spoil it with the addition of artificial flavors!

HOW TO

1. Why is my espresso coming out so slowly?

Espresso should be extracted very slowly for the best taste. Shaking the pod before inserting it will ensure a steady flow.   Espresso ROMA, bold and rich, comes out very slowly.  You are supposed to pour 1 ounce only.   The Medium Roast Coffee, instead, comes out quickly: you can fill a 10 or 12 ounce mug in no time.

2. My pod is stuck, what now?

Check if pod container needs emptying. If it does not, move lever up and down quickly. This should free the pod from the brewing chamber so it can drop into the container.

3. How much coffee should I dispense and what if I want a larger quantity of coffee?

Typically, an espresso is about 1 oz. We find that ORCA espresso also tastes great at 2 oz. To enjoy a larger amount of coffee without over-extraction, press the blue button to stop then lift the lever so the pod can drop into the container; lower the lever and press the button again so only hot water is being added to your coffee. Press the button again when the desired amount is reached. In this case you have just prepared an Americano.

4. Why can't I insert a new pod in my ORCA Brewer?

Because likely the pod-container is full of used pods. In this case, empty the container. If the container is very full you might have to tug a little to remove it.

5. Why is my ORCA Brewer not working?

Check if power is on. Check if water is in the tank. Check if tank is properly installed (should not move horizontally). Check if pod container is not too full. If all the above is OK, some air may be trapped in the brewer. Lift lever to remove pod, if inserted, then close lever and push the dispensing (blue) button. After a few seconds the air-bubble will be expelled from the pump of the machine and hot water will come out from the nozzle. Now your Orca Brewer works and you can prepare your coffee. By-the-way, that unused pod you have removed is still good: you can put it back in!

6. Which kind of water should I use to prepare my espresso?

You should exclusively use good drinking water. If you use unfiltered tap water, your espresso might have an odor or a taste of chlorinated compounds, or other chemicals that are often present in tap water for sanitization purposes.

7. Can I prepare a boiling-hot coffee?

Of course! First heat-up your cup by dispensing hot water only (no pod inserted). Then discard the hot water from your cup, lift the lever, insert your pod and brew your coffee in the pre-heated cup. If during dispensing the blue light turns red, no need to do anything!

8. Why does the light on the ORCA Brewer sometimes turn red?

You do not have to stop dispensing coffee when the light is red. The red light indicates that the machine is heating up and only stays on for a few seconds before changing back to blue when the maximum temperature is reached.

9. I have just received my ORCA Brewer: now what?

Please read the instruction manual inside the box of the ORCA Brewer, it won't take long! It will tell you that you first need to fill the water tank with drinking water (filtered tastes and works best), place a cup in position (on the drip tray), plug in the brewer and then turn on the main power switch on the back of the machine. The light on the dispensing button will turn to red and, after a few seconds will change into blue. Now your ORCA Brewer is ready and, after dispensing water into the cup a few times, you can insert a pod and prepare your coffee.
